Student Feedback

Here are some anonymous comments from students in my classes on Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan and Himalayan culture and society, and Tibetan literature and book culture held at the University of British Columbia between 2018 and 2022. This period also included hybrid teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Professor Schwerk was a fantastic instructor, her awareness and confrontation of UBC’s place on Indigenous land, her explanation of biases we may carry and her general acknowledgment and dedication to show her students resources for equality was incredibly put together and more coherent than most classes I’ve taken at UBC. Dr. Schwerk is a great professor! I would like to take more of her courses next term.”

“Professor Schwerk was a wonderful professor. She was very invested in the learning of students, student participation, and overall academic performance.”

“Best Arts course I have taken at UBC – Dr. Schwerk was very clear with her expectations on her assignments and she was also very quick with responding to questions and emails. She was also very caring and a pleasant person to be around.”

“The instructor was crazy knowledgeable! I was surprised with the lot of information we were given every class. The teacher is clearly passionate on the subject and I think a great ambassador for the Himalayan studies.”

“I think the readings, the documentaries, and especially the class discussions were extremely interesting and always made me look forward to attending the Thursday classes. I also really loved the meditation sections of the Tuesday lectures, I thought they not only complemented the course material but were also so great for student wellbeing, too.”

“I liked the hands-on meditation and the dynamic mantra breaks, they made the class much more engaging than some of my other distance courses. It made me actually quite excited to practice what we were learning.”

“Professor Schwerk is a wonderful professor who definitely showed great knowledge to her materials. She often encourages class participation where weekly discussions take place.”

“I greatly appreciate having a mixture of readings, videos, documentaries, and guest speakers as it livens the material. I also think the professor is effective in explaining difficult concepts.”

“Thank you for your care!”
